Elmer Ford Art Car by Allen Christian

Elmer Ford is the second artcar created by artist Allen Christian. Unlike his first vehicle which had a bolt on/glue on surface, Allen wanted to create a moving sculptural form. After acquiring a 1966 Ford F250 pickup, closed cell foam was applied over the topper and cab, sculpted, painted and fiberglassed. Allen considers Elmer a themeless artcar and more as an extension of his sculpture studio, the House of Balls. Elmer and Allen both extend an invitation to stop by if you're ever in Minneapolis. Oh yeah, Elmer isn't done yet. Bet you've heard that before.

What Santa Rides During Off Season - Video

Santa Car Mark III. Actually the full name is Lincoln Santa Is Coming To Towne Car and was created by Brian Taylor who also created the Metro Santa Car and Machete Betties Roller Derby Art Car. I just came across this video of him riding his latest Santa Car that gives you a glimpse into what its like riding an art car around town. I know its Summer time but I needed cheering up today so Brian's Santa Art Car is just what the doctor ordered.

Flamingo Art Cars and Bikes Take Off

I've always thought it would be great to cover a car in pink flamingos so this is the next best thing for me, blog entry filled with flamingo cars and bikes. Its also funny to me how different each art car is from each other, ranging from mounted flamingos to painted flamingos. I like this first one, with a few flamingos mounted high up on poles on a jet black car, very striking(sorry no more drive through for you). I also included an art car with a wanted sign asking people for flamingos to take his current art car to the next level. And lets not forget the flamingo art bikes. Iguana Art Car - For Sale

The Iguana Art Car is a one of a kind art car and is for sale on ebay for only $2,500. It is a 2000 Dodge Caravan (with a trailer) that has been converted into a 42 ft iguana that gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. Really? Wow had no idea that car like that would get so much attention. It took the artist 2 months to build it, and now they want to part with it. I love it.

Danger Car By Reverend Charles Linville at Art Car Car Fest

Art Car Fest 09 could be a dangerous event but this year the good Reverend Charles Linville in his Danger Car will be attending to make sure that nobody gets hurt. The purpose of Danger car is to serve as a warning to all of things that are potentially dangerous and worrisome;hence the outer coating of reflective stripes, twisted metal, broken mirrors, ripples, warning lights and police sirens. The interior is festooned with matchbook covers, warning tape and bullet casings. Cant wait to meet the Reverend, its should be a lot safer this year with the Danger Car up front.

The Witchmobile is a 1962 Dodge Lancer decorated by Rebecca Caldwell the creator of the Carthedral and David Hilborn. Vexing, hexing, and perplexing from Oakland, California, the Witchmobile was created to bring art and craft (witchcraft!) to the mundane and to honor the creative spirit on the highway of life. The Witchmobile, a work in progress, started in June 2009 and will be at it's first Art Car Fest this September in the bay area.

It comes complete with an unparalleled roof mounted rocket arsenal, radar, small garbage can, alien techno thingies and lots of red and blue lights. It also has a separate electric system for all the art car extras, such a deafening hoof mounted horn, fog lights, public address speaker and various other odds and ends. It also has a ton of glued objects and an assortment stickers attached all over the the car. Best of all, the car smells fine.

Flivver the Art Car is a 1987 Toyota Tercel that Joy Johnston got for free back in 2004. This is her third art car and is out of commission. After October Flivver will rest at East Jesus, Slab City, near Niland, CA where she will be converted to a permanent camper sculpture at Charlie's compound. In addtion to her art car, Joy also loves to create custom crocheted hats of pure joy. During one Art Car Fest event she, along with the bay area art car girls made fleece hats for every one and I still wear mine every day, mmmmm so warm.

Cheri Brugman is the creator of this now non existent art car called Pestilencia that was featured in Harrod Blanks Automorphosis movie that just came out. Pestilencia was covered with decapitated body parts and heads and "Stop Greed”, an art car created in response to how she felt about the world at the time. The most obvious part of this car is the flames shooting out from the hood of the car, which is definitely good for roasted marshmallows in a pinch. Pestilencia was eventually crushed at an art car festival in San Francisco called Art Car Fest.

The Phenomabomber Beta Art Van- The Phenomenauts and their Intergalactic Mission

A band of space cadets came together in 2000 to form what is now known as the The Phenomenauts. This intergalactic band of pioneers led by Commanders Angel Nova and Joe Bot, are a blend rockabilly, punk, and good old-fashioned rock‘n’roll. This this quintet has quickly become well known and loved by all who have witnessed their amazing shows. Their space adventures are made possible by the use of their space ship called "The Phenomabomber Beta" seen here parked in dry dock.

Squirly Whirly Art Car by Tré Taylor was first seen at last weeks Maker Faire in San Mateo CA. It was one of the many art cars that came, but it was the only one that had never been seen before. Tré told me that she and her friend had just put the finishing touches the night before and drove it Saturday morning to be at the Maker Faire. She drove Squirly Whirly the slow way up El Camino to San Mateo from Santa Clara since Squirly had not been road tested for highway speeds. Squirly Whirly is actually the car formerly known as the candle car and Tré is also the creator of the famous Fahrvernpüssy Lounge now in the shop for some repairs. Squirly is covered in fans and the giant Squirel holding a nut is named Larry. Check out the video, its much better live.

Recently I got a post card placed on my Mercedes Pens Art Car and it was from Susan Jette and her amazing Vehicle of Enlightenment art car. There is a lot of stuff glued on the car and looks amazing in the day time. But at night with LED and L-Wire it is transformed into something entirely different seen here at Burning man. Susan told me in her email that the car is currently in limbo, in the shop needed some major engine work, so I guess this car is currently on hold until an art car "angel" comes to enlightened rescue.
